Grimm’s Spiel & Holz are a family business and have been making unique and distinctive natural wooden toys at the foot of the Swabian Alb (Germany) since 1978.
Inspired by the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, Spiel & Holz toys leave room for independent and open-ended play, allowing for the child’s own imaginative and creative life to be developed. It is the optimal balance of innovative and minimal design which serves to inspire creativity rather than to limit it. As children grow, their needs change and they find different ways to play with open-ended toys. Thus, the same toy can become a faithful companion over many years because it can be played with again and again, keeping up with the child’s development.
Grimm's natural wooden toys are created with the very best of care using European woods – alder, lime, maple and cherry. Their wood comes exclusively from sustainably managed forests in Europe. Grimms are an FSC certified company and are actively engaged in reforestation projects.

Grimms toys are durable and their raw material wood is so robust that it can stay with us for a long time. If something breaks, it can be repaired with glue. Importantly, wood fits into the natural cycle without any problems.

Spiel & Holz toys have no sharp edges or corners as all the toys are individually sanded by hand. Each toy is hand-finished with special non-toxic and water-based dyes providing distinctive colours and shades, and then treated with pure vegetable oil.
As a sustainable manufacturer, Grimms have an entrepreneurial responsibility based on respectful interaction with the environment and the people living in it.
